I am a chef by trade and have no engineering training but have always been interested in cars, motor sport and all things associated.
I built my own kart when I was about 13, and went on to tune and race karts for many years. I packed up racing some years ago because of work commitments (ie. working every weekend!) I have stripped and rebuilt several cars over the years, but this is the most ambitious thing I have done so far.
The car I am building is not a kit, but is being built from scratch. It was inspired by a book I came across by accident one day while browsing in a local bookshop. The book is called Build your own Sports Car for as little as £250 by Ron Champion.
Unlike the book though, I am building my chassis slightly larger to accomodate the V6 engine from the donor car. I am also modifying the chassis, particularly the front suspension set up, to take the four wheel drive drivetrain as fitted to the donor. I used the plans from the web site of Mr Jim McSorley, which I thoroughly recommend. You can find it at http://www.mcsorley.net/. Thanks Jim!
